TERROIR
The history of the vine in this area is over a thousand years old and it is no coincidence that Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG has become a symbolic product of Italy in the world. It is the perfect synthesis of a combination of man's ability to cultivate these often inaccessible hills by hand and the mild and favorable climate that accompanies them in every season.
It is precisely these pedoclimatic characteristics of the Valdobbiadene DOCG hills that give an extremely fragrant wine, with a light body but at the same time formed, with salinity and a tannic part of it, in an extremely pleasant balance.
Terroir is a term of French origin that identifies the environmental conditions, the characteristics of the soil, the terrain and the wine making tradition of a specific geographical area that determine the organoleptic characteristics and the typicality of the wine. In the world of wine the term terroir is used to define and identify a specific area of production of a wine that indicates the typicality of the product. Each terroir or production area is unique in its specific characteristics. We can encounter two areas with similar conditions of climate, soil and terrain, but not completely identical or replicable; which is why the same vine planted in different areas will produce grapes with different characteristics and consequently very different wines.
“EVERY WINE IS AS UNIQUE AS THE TERRITORY IT COMES FROM ”
SOIL AND LAND
The origin of the soil is ancient, dating back to the lifting of the seabed and lake.
One part of the hills is composed of sediments of rock and sand rich in clay and iron, while another comes from soils of marine origin consisting of marl and sandstone, less deep and more filtering.
The coexistence of different types of soils, associated with a different conformation of the hills, milder in the Coneglianese, steeper towards Valdobbiadene, make each microzone different, with as many varieties of spumante wines with multiple organoleptic characteristics.
CLIMATE
The location between the sea and the Pre-Alps ensures a temperate climate (2/13 ºF) and constant ventilation.
This allows the grapes to dry quickly after the rains.
The hills, extending from East to West, have a side facing entirely to the South, which has the best sun exposure; the north side is generally occupied by wooded areas, which promote the recirculation of fresh air, maintaining optimal humidity.
The altitude between 100 and 500 meters favors a temperature range that gives wonderful acidity to the grapes, developing a unique and recognizable bouquet.
THE HUMAN HAND
Man and landscape, over the centuries, have shaped each other.
On the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene is practiced a "heroic viticulture", which requires a particular effort both by man and by the vine, both engaged on steep slopes.
Most of the operations, here, are done by hand, with innovative techniques, which however retain their traditional essence.
For this reason, there are about 600 hours of work needed to cultivate a vineyard in this territory, in a year, that is four times the time taken for a modern and mechanized viticulture.
From the method of cultivation of vines, to the harvest, as well as the process of production, storage and maturation of wine, everything responds to a precise choice of the winemaker.
